HARTFORD, CONN. – [December 16, 2024] – The Mohegan Tribe, Mohegan Sun, and the Governor’s Prevention Partnership have announced a partnership to foster community wellness and mentoring to combat substance misuse within our communities. This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both organizations to develop innovative prevention programs, enhance educational outreach and build a healthier future for our youth and future workforce.

“On behalf of Mohegan, we are proud to make this commitment to the Governor’s Prevention Partnership and I’m looking forward to joining the Board and working with the team to support their ongoing efforts,” said Jeff Hamilton, President and General Manager of Mohegan Sun. “For us at Mohegan, we are guided by our obligation to support the communities in which we live and work. We are honored to work alongside government and business partners to address substance misuse across Connecticut by building alliances and providing mentorship to our youth. We look forward to continuing to invest in the future and well-being of young people across Connecticut.”

Mohegan Tribe and its flagship property, Mohegan Sun, are committed to supporting communities across Connecticut, fostering partnerships that drive both economic vitality and social responsibility. In the nearly 30 years since Mohegan Sun opened its doors, Mohegan has generated over $4.5 billion that has underwritten essential public services, crucial infrastructure projects and educational and community programs across the entire state of Connecticut. This investment in partnerships with governments and local non-profits is central to the Tribe’s values and the way in which its businesses operate. Mohegan leaders are committed to this partnership beyond this sponsorship to engage team members to participate in these critical programs and serve as mentors for young people across Connecticut.

“Having just marked the Partnership’s 35th anniversary, I cannot think of a better way to charge into a new year than bringing on a partner like Mohegan,” said Gov. Ned Lamont. “Just as GPP has endured, they are leaving an indelible mark on the lives they touch, especially with their youth mentoring, which will be the focus of their work in 2025. As co-chair of the Partnership and governor of this state, I thank the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun for helping power our work with their commitment and welcome Mr. Hamilton to our board of directors. Our work together will continue to make tangible change for the betterment of our communities.

“We believe that prevention is key to building strong, resilient communities,” said Kelly Juleson, Co-President of the Governor’s Prevention Partnership. “By partnering with the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Sun, we are excited to amplify our efforts and ensure our initiatives resonate deeply within the community. Working together on initiatives to empower individuals and promote healthier lifestyles, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.”
